Heating, Ventilation and Air ConditioningROOFSThe more ventilation there is present on your asphalt shingle roof, the longer it will last. Roofs with few or no vents won’t last nearly as long as a roof that has a lot of them. Shingles need to be kept cool and dry on the underside to slow the onset of aging. The symptoms of aging include cracking, blistering, flaking and curling or cupping. The method of venting is not as important as having a sufficient amount of ventilation. There are a variety of different venting methods you can use. More venting can be added at anytime in the life of a roof. In addition to extending the useful life span of your roof, extra vents will increase the efficiency of your whole house fan and keep the air conditioner from working quite so hard by providing a cooler ceiling. ATTICSAttic insulation is very important in the cost of your heating and cooling bill. Generally, the greater the R-Value (thickness) of the insulation, the greater the efficiency of your HVAC system. Insulation is available in tow major types: roll and blown. In most attics with a flat ceiling under them, the blown is the easiest to apply and usually is the least expensive.
